Just after I wrote the last post, I went out to bring in the washing and water the garden. Guess what I found? One tiny little nasturtium seedling has popped its head up. I'm sure it wasn't there yesterday. Not a huge thing in the scheme of things to some people, but as a lazy gardener who usually buys seedlings, I get such a thrill from seeing something grow from a seed. As Wordsworth said, sometimes you can see the universe in a flower, or words to that effect. I'll have to dig out my big fat book of English Literature from my uni days for the exact quote. So here it is....nestled under its neighbour - a nice fat pansy.

nasturtiums are great self seeders too and can actually take a while to leave your garden on settled in, so enjoy!
That's what I'm hoping. Kipper ruined the last crop of nasturtiums in that bed hence the puppy fence.
I'm a great fan of bringing in the washing. Weather permitting, I usually fold and sort on the trampoline and breathe in the world as I go. Bringing the washing inside is usually preceded by a meander around the garden, throwing the ball for the dog while helping concoct a magic potion for a kid or three. Haven't yet spotted a nasturtium.
I love nasturtiums, there is something old fashioned and fun about them. Do you know what colour they will be? I can't wait till I can hang out my washing again, it's been to cold and wet here. But when the weather fines up I will be out there, like Tania, enjoying the world and watching the birds. xo
Beck - I'm hoping they'll be red and yellow so I don't just get the slightly boring old orange ones. But any colour will do.
i love this. pansys (Pansies?) are so pretty.
do you remember that sunflower on my blog a few months back? when it died and dried out i planted some of the seeds. only one sprouted and i was watching it like a mother hen but today i checked on it---and a squirrel had eaten it. i was so mad!
Tammie - I do remember that post about your beautiful sunflower. I'd be mad at that squirrel too.
